Winter Wonders

It's time to enjoy winter wonders that emerge this time of the year as we look at some features and finds from the Web about the comforts of home.

Bring into your home only things that bring you comfort and joy, not clutter. If you really don't feel like having a giant tree inside your home along with all the bugs that cling to it, then forget it this year. Simplicity is the keyword this season.

It's time for reflection and valuing the important things in life while indulging in luxuries that make you feel good and do not pile on more stress or work for yourself.

Remember to invite family and friends into your home this year for a nice dinner that they will remember for a very long time. Yes, making memories is more important that gathering things that cause stress and you always have to find room for them somewhere or have to re-gift them or figure out how to unload them.

You'll never regret setting a beautiful table for a few friends.

Think about new design projects while you're home for the holidays.
Maybe redo your staircase by adding bright colors.

Be bold this winter if you're planning to travel to foreign lands or go to smart dinner parties. Invest in quality lashes, not those thick clumps that look like one thick piece of cardboard on your eyes.

Indulge in a wonderful breakfast to keep you cozy during the cold winter mornings.

Remember to bring your pets indoors during the cold winter months.

Think out of the box this season and take a tip from Marilyn and put yourself in that Christmas stocking at the fireplace.

Summer Style

Summer is almost here which means that we've got new opportunities to change our style for the season and I've got a few suggestions for your consideration.

It is important to think about each season, what we no longer need or use, I mean, if you really haven't used a product or worn an outfit in at least two years and six months, then you probably don't like it anymore or that makeup or pair of shoes or pieces of clothing no longer strike your fancy.

So, toss it or donate it or just give it away to a friend, of course, we don't normally pass off makeup to anyone else. Just remember to use your stuff, don't just buy it and store it. If you really hate it, fine, the garbage can would be more than happy to take it off your hands. Don't feel guilty about it. Not everything will work out in our lives on the first try. Just keep experimenting until you find your personal style.

Travel:

The jumpsuit never goes out of style and it's a great choice for trains, planes or automobile travel. They are easy to wear, comfortable, and can stand up to those long trips. Just toss it in your suitcase and wear it on the way to your destination and back again. Make sure it's got pockets, sturdy material in case you have to jump out of an airplane or fill up that car with a tank of gasoline, you don't have to worry about tearing anything or getting it dirty or spoiling your good stuff on your way to your ultimate landing. Wash, wear and go and you'll look sporty doing it.

Perfect for flights.

Even though you may want to be cute and cool while traveling, it's not advisable to bare your legs for airplane travel. If you suffer an in-flight mishap and get jostled around or need to make an emergency landing and the plane gets hot, or catches fire, your bare legs will suffer. It's best to wear thick cotton, canvas or denim so in case things heat up beyond the norm in that airplane, your legs are protected. Don't wear polyester pants because they can melt into your skin if you have a disaster and fire breaks out either inflight or if the pilot makes an emergency landing and you have no landing gear and the plane skids and heats up. Even if you have to slide down one of those emergency evacuation slides, your legs will be scraped up if they are bare or thin fabric may tear. So think about being protected during your flight while staying calm, cool and comfortable.

Change into your cute outfits after you land at your final destination.

Pets:

Make sure bedding is kept cool and clean for your furry roommates and keep them indoors in the summertime or at least on a shaded patio with lots of water and a fan blowing for air circulation. But really, indoors is best. Of course if you have farm animals, they enjoy lots of water in barrels or tubs or shallow pools but don't let water stand and become stagnate. Have shady stalls and barns they can walk in and out of with air circulating and fans mounted for safety and out of reach.

Fashion:

If you want to shop the trend, it's all about puffy sleeves, graffiti prints, bralettes, and menswear. It's fun to have some current styles in your closet, but beware they will quickly expire and you may stick out in some social circles for all the wrong reasons. Pick what works for you and experiment with different styles.

Makeup:

Orange, coral, and neutrals are the way to go this summer with your makeup. Add some eyelashes for extra emphasis or go with your own with extra coats of mascara or emphasize the eye area and go neutral or nude on your mouth. Don't forget to switch to waterproof makeup that can hold up for longer hours if you plan on being outdoors, something like, Clinique Continuous Coverage foundation which has a sunscreen in it too so you aren't having to add layers of product under your foundation. Then set it with your favorite unscented powder to prevent breakouts and keep your makeup in place so it's not running all over the place.

Summer Style

Even though many people may still be a bit confined, you don't have to suffer in silence. You can make your home environment one of pleasure and comfort as we head into the final weeks of summer. Don't let the heat sabotage your style.

Here are some style inspirations to help make your nest a bit more restful as you ponder the Fall months making sure you stock up on essentials just in case you can't get to the makeup counter. A lot of stores are not reordering their essential makeup and supplies which is just stupid since we have to keep up our spirits no matter if we are at home or venturing out into the wild unknown as many are taking down the mask of destruction and wearing it around their jawline or neck just in case they are harassed by paid shoppers while ignorant shop owners hide the stuff that sells in the warehouse and forcing us to buy the over-priced garbage they stick on the shelves that they can't unload under normal shopping conditions.

Here are some style ideas to keep in mind:

This is a lovely little outfit for posing in front of a wall since
the shops might be Covid Closed. Remember to stick
a scarf in that purse in case someone panics that you are
breathing their same air even though the chances
of walking past someone and getting sick is about 0.0.

Spend the day in bed and create your own picnic. Take comfort
in a cappuccino and some fruit, bread, and good books.

Nothing is more calming to frazzled stay-at-home nerves than walking
into a color coordinated closet. Try it this weekend.

Put plain or sparkling water in a glass in the fridge along with herbal tea bags
for some iced tea. You can create your own ice cubes by putting
water in a zipped freezer bag and lay it flat inside your freezer.
Once it becomes a bit frozen, you can break it up and put it in the glass.

Get some sun but don't overdo it.

Clear Vision 2020

Yeah, it's that pesky new year and the resolutions we never keep. But maybe this time you'll win. Start by seeing things as they are as we head into the clear vision and clear thinking year of 2020.

No more cluttering up our lives with things that don't really matter and no more physical clutter in our homes, cars, and at the office. Start by shredding old documents and receipts that are long past their relevancy. Take a look at some of those old photos you no longer want that show your bad side and seek and destroy them. If there is stuff you want to keep, why not scan it and save it in an electronic file format. Maybe your tax records need to be kept or certain legal docs in their present form, but you can store them away in plastic stacking bins and forget about it.

For your home or office, or that pantry that needs organizing, think about the actual use of the space you're in. What do you need to accomplish? What things should be at your fingertips, like, pens, pencils, or note pads. There are plenty of organizing options at various stores without having to break the bank or get overly complicated. Old shoe boxes work well to stack in a closet to house backup makeup and essential supplies so you aren't constantly running to the store to buy your beauty staples.

Buck up your courage and dump that makeup that is no longer working for you. Don't be afraid, yeah, I know, you spent a lot of money on it but fine, you have to purchase items to see what works and what doesn't unless you are the famous Nicole Kidman and get products arriving at your doorstep every week hoping you will endorse it on your next TV talk show appearance.

Why not try some oldies but goodies as far as reading material to clear your mind and soul of the day's worries? How about listening to classic radio shows that are freely available online featuring some of your favorite celebs from the 1940s - 1960s.

Yeah, we all need to think about our diet but it's not too bad to indulge once in awhile. Sometimes, just keeping sweets on hand makes you not panic when you're craving it and it's not in the house. Just set it on a shelf in your pantry and it's there just in case. You'll probably find that you really don't go reaching for it when you don't feel deprived or ban it from your life completely. Like, oh yeah, it's there, so what, I'll drink some hot tea instead or a coffee drink with cinnamon and almond milk. A coffee substitute is just as good from a brand called "Pero". Many people say to avoid all chemically decaffeinated drinks at all costs, the chemicals can be extremely harmful.

Go for herbal teas or a Pero drink instead, anything that naturally does not contain caffeine if you don't want it. For me, caffeine is fine in small doses, just about a cup a day and that's it. Yeah, I know, watch calories but maybe switch out that plain pasta for veggie pasta, or switch out that meat dish with a veggie dish. Even melted pure butter over broccoli can be fairly satisfying since I think you should avoid manufactured substitutes depending on what they're made of. Beef or chicken substitutes can be much healthier than animal products.

Happy new year to all fans of the Style Sheet. Here's to many more years to come !!

A Little Goes a Long Way

If you have a regular job and have to be at that desk at 8 AM [you have my sympathy], then you've probably got your makeup and styling routine down pat.

Some people can't start the day without their cup of coffee before jumping in the shower. Then the hot rollers and making up your face as you quickly dress and dash to the office for breakfast at your desk of a bagel and more coffee. It just depends on your own preferences.

However, you don't need to spend hours everyday on your "look" if you are just dashing to the grocery store for a few bottles of water and a carton of ice cream. There would be no need to do a whole face or complicated hair style unless, of course, Fabio works at your grocery store. I mean, best face forward in that case. It just depends on the situation and how you feel that day. Sometimes getting up and putting on a face and fixing that wig [ha] and prepping to leave the house can get you out of a frump.

Good example of what a little makeup and hair styling can do for a person.

A little makeup goes a long way, even on Margot Robbie.

Also, think about the space you inhabit and that it is calm and comfortable and remember to clear out the clutter. Once my house starts to get full of things I get upset. I need to clear it out and throw it out or donate it. The rule of thumb is that if you buy something for the house, throw out something old and no longer useful so you don't fill your house with a bunch of stuff you are tired of and get overwhelmed.

I like these style ideas for a relaxing and comfortable environment:
