Face Facts: Powder Foundation

Readers might recall I did a blog entry about makeup foundation, and how BareMinerals and any mineral powders only work if used in small doses and with liquid foundation. Otherwise it is blotchy, cakey, and will make you break out, unless you use it sparingly, and the best results will always be with a liquid foundation for your skin type.

Gosh, I hate being right all the time, since now the BareMinerals company has broken down and formulated their own liquid foundation. Right, they have called it a skin primer, color corrector, and a foundation, and it comes in various colors to match your skin tone. Yes, the liquid foundation they used to demonize they are now making themselves. Dump the BareMinerals, folks, it is too heavy, it does transfer onto clothing despite their claims, and many powders are much better....a few examples to experiment with; there are a lot of good ones that won't break the bank:

  • Ulta brand powder foundation [to set liquid foundation around the nose/eyes]
  • Ulta brand finishing powder
  • KETT brand setting powder
  • Mehron brand powder [great colors that can also be used as eye shadow]
  • Clinique loose face powder

Plain powder will never work on anyone's face unless you have perfect, perfect skin, and just want to erase a bit of shine. For the rest of the entire population, that is, anyone over 18, you need extra help with your skin. A lot of good tinted moisturizers are out there if you do not need to cover up and hide any imperfections, but everyone needs a good sunscreen, and a bit of color never hurts anyone. Then add your eye makeup and color on your lips, and you are set for everyday affairs [your nighttime affairs are another story].

More About PS: Plastic Surgery

I know I harp on this, but really, for both men and women, subtle is better than a full facelift, and the earlier the better. Start treating your plastic surgeon as you would your regular dental visits, eye appts, whatever, make it a part of the routine; but read up first. Doctors will sell you every single procedure, device, trick, treat, and drug they have making them all very rich and you looking like a lab experiment or a prop from the latest Alice Cooper video.

If the super rich move stars cannot achieve a lifetime of good looks, how can us commoners expect anything different? We are not there yet with perfecting the scalpel on skin, it is like pulling back a curtain, you pull back one part and the rest sags or creates more and different creases elsewhere.

Doctors can never restore your face to what it looked like when you were young. Aside from that celebrities cheat for the camera, using surgical tape under wigs to pull back their faces tight, they use heavy cosmetics and a fuzzy lens for their TV and movie work. Subtle, small changes will make a difference in your life....the rich just have more money to botch up their faces, yes, rich in vanity, not rich in intelligence...but this is the best doctors can do, so either spend your fortune to look your age with a pulled back face, or spend your fortune elsewhere...

On the bright side, everyone ages, including the perfect and pretty. So, aside from getting any needed nips and tucks, spend your money on a fantastic car, a wonderful vacation, a shopping spree in New York...live your life in reality facing what looks back at you in the mirror with joy, no matter what your age.

One Stop Shopping: Marriage Advice For The Woman In The Family

What, you say? Marriage advice on a blog? Yes, folks I am a month late for all the June brides, but better late than never. This blog is everything for all people, nothing stops me from giving my opinion about everything, including marriage...okay so, who is my inspiration for marriage advice for women? HA...The Taming Of The Shrew:

All bites are not bad, a fiery animal is awesome, not to be feared but to be honored to be in their presence, and hang on for a great ride....much the way people are, take them as you find them, but remember someone has to yield to the other person...

Beautiful women can act like a shrew, like Elizabeth in the film; an immature brat who hated just about everyone and wanted everything her way, she could never find a boyfriend let alone anyone proposing marriage. She had it all, wealth and beauty, but lacked a personality. So isn't that a great lesson here? It isn't beauty or wealth that makes a great marriage, it's you, your personality, the way you treat yourself and those around you.

Well, Elizabeth's father in the movie had to pay a man to marry her, so that his younger, sweet, daughter could marry, as it was the custom that the older siblings marry first.

By the end of the film she is giving advice to the other women. She turns over the authority in the marriage to her husband, her respect, her gratitude, she finally matures, she figures out what life is all about, being in a partnership, being respectful, yet not giving up what makes you, you..if you are fiery keep that part of you, yet temper it with intelligence and kindness...oh, it's a great film...go for it...

The Original: Mae West

She practically started everything, was a champion of gay rights before it was fashionable or "commercial", and was well ahead of her time with her risque dialogue in films and on the stage. She wrote stage plays and became a screenwriter when she hit Hollywood. Her quips became famous and hold up to this day...oh, and when she got  a bit older, she moved into a penthouse apartment in Los Angeles. When she simply wanted her boyfriend to move in with her, the management of the apartment building said no, why? Because her boyfriend was African-American. So what did she do? She bought the building and changed the rules. Wow, that was some lady.

Not sure if this info is still accurate, but it was reported Bette Midler will play Mae West in a movie for HBO, hopefully, it won't be like that awful comedic, cartoonish portrayal like Michael Douglas did of Liberace, my gosh, throw that in the garbage. Mae West has been portrayed before, years ago, by an actress named Ann Jillian, with James Brolin.

Rumor has it Raquel Welch and Mae West didn't like each other during the filming of Myra Breckinridge, a movie no one has seen and it is never shown anywhere, but Raquel believed Mae was really a man in drag, I don't really think that it is true...however, she was much like that sexy star of Country and Pop, Dolly Parton, who are so over the top sexy, and not hiding the fact they like men, yet we never see a husband/boyfriend out publicly with these women. It was reported that during Mae West's first marriage, she and her husband always had separate bedrooms, and Dolly Parton's husband seems more like a hired hand standing in as a convenient husband to keep suitors from banging on her hotel room door and seeing her sans her wigs, makeup and costumes. Just interesting similarities.

Yes, Dolly, cute sayings are fine, but time to live out loud instead of just with that loud mouth. Some need to keep secrets, maybe Mae West was one of them, we will never know for sure, but Dolly still has time, we think. With all that fake hair and morticians grease paint, she looks ready for her final journey.
