New Year's Resolutions

I know, we go through this every year, our resolutions to make life better for us. But there is always room for improvement in all areas of our lives and why not make 2019 special? There are simple changes we can make to get us started off right.

Why not start by jotting down the things that you did right last year? What worked for you? What plans and goals did you reach? Then carry that forward into 2019 and think about how you want this new year to read. Don't get carried away with big ideas you can't fulfill or have no intention on doing, just keep it simple.

Here are a few examples:

Make simple food changes. Instead of sugary sweets, switch to a protein fruit smoothie. It will satisfy that sweet tooth and provide protein, potassium, vitamin C and other nutrients. Choose a protein powder you like, and mix it up in a blender using Almond milk, bananas, peanut butter, cinnamon powder, or orange juice concentrate with ginger powder and turmeric. Get creative this year with protein smoothies and boost your immune system at the same time.

Freshen up your home with inexpensive touches. Purchase scented candles and place around your home to match the decor and brighten your mood. Skip the dry or fake flowers and bring home some fresh ones on your trip to the market. They are also disposable gifts that you never need to store. Just use and toss away. If you like a particular candle holder, you can purchase wicks in a craft store and pour wax from other candles into that holder you want to keep. Burn the candle until the wax melts, pour it into a holder you want to keep, hold the wick until the wax starts to harden [it only takes a few minutes] and there you have it, wax transferred from one candle holder to another.

Get rid of the gray, yes, I mean you. Start freshening up your look by choosing a hair color close to your own natural color. Otherwise, those gray strands might turn orange. Some people go a bit darker with their hair color to cover gray while others go lighter so that the new hair growth will not be so obvious but will sort of blend in. Use a clarifying shampoo to prevent hair spray and mousse build up. Especially use it before you color your hair so you are dying your hair and not hair coated with hair spray that will flake or wash off later. If you want custom colors or highlights, I suggest seeking out a professional salon and not try it at home.

And last but not least, don't forget to spend time with a best friend.
