Lush Life: Remembering Oscar de la Renta

Sad news of the passing of a fashion icon, Oscar de la Renta, and his lavish and lush dresses are easily recognizable on any girl as they catch the eye and fulfill every girl's wishes of how she wants to look, like a princess...and don't think you have to be especially tall or thin to wear one of his exceptional gowns, here are a few examples in remembrance of a great man with extreme style:

Can Halloween Ever Be Classy?

Sorry, but I hate all the Halloween junk around everyone's homes, inside and out, and suppose it's for the kiddies but I see waaay too many adults with nothing to do that do too much to themselves and their houses around this time of the year. Gosh, is there that much unemployment that everyone has time to spend on putting all this junk around their houses, not to mention spending the extra dough, although from what I have seen, they drag the same awful stuff out year after year so I doubt they are spending any money. But let's start putting money in our mattresses instead of fake spiders.

How about some class? Style? I found a few ideas across the Internet that actually look good, don't take a lot of your valuable time, and can be taken down quickly or thrown away and just start fresh next year with new ideas. Stop letting commercialism consume your every waking moment, you've got better things to do, places to see, new adventures, without wondering how much plastic and chemicals you place in a giant vat outside your door, you know, it's called candy, which will kill everyone quicker than anything. Your store-bought candy has been sitting in warehouses since 1965 and you are eating it as well as letting it eat through your pocketbook. Put your money back in your bank account and save it for a rainy day or a pleasant gift for yourself.

Stop with the running around in the neighborhood with some witchy leader of the pack housewife barking orders at you and your kids. If you are unlucky, I mean lucky, enough to have small kids, show them some classic movies. Depending on their ages, here are some good ones [original versions only; no remakes should be allowed]:

I think you will enjoy Halloween more if you make it a fun night instead of something where you are stressed out pandering to kids, other people, and corporations who are making money off of selling you the same ol' stuff year after year, including that poison candy. Bake a pie, bake your own cookies, stay home, or just go to the theater; nothing wrong with that and you start thinking about what you want to do instead of what stupid co-workers are telling you to do, or some unemployed nut who lives on your street. Go for it, you can do it, be an individual, and develop your own STYLE.

Fall Hits & Misses

Some fashion finds and trends you might like with my expert opinions included; hey, this would hardly be a useful blog without my opinions, right? So get going and get with the program for Fall and don't be someone's pigeon and do anything trendy unless you are 20 with a bottomless Trust Fund.

I don't care how old or young you are, never do this with lipstick unless it is Halloween:

Do this:

Day time
Gorgeous for evening

Monochromatic dressing works but you need a bunch of different outfits since you can only wear one color once because once everyone has seen it you look stupid if you keep wearing it again and again during the season and it looks like you have nothing to wear but the one outfit:

Trendy done right - looks good at work depending on where you work, like an advertising agency. It will look good in the evening when you are meeting Mr. Big Spender for drinks as I wouldn't attempt food with a white blouse unless you are with trusted friends:

Can't go wrong with black & white; great look for any office and dinner with the girls:

Boots are find for shopping and traveling by car otherwise you will get uncomfortable really quick and can't wait to ditch them; they are for short term use; never for airplanes, but trains and ships are okay:

Same with hats, they are for shopping or traveling, not indoors or extended wear:

Take Fall by the horns and never look back to see who's chasing you; it could be yourself.
